There's always a sense of wonder when arriving to a new destination by the air, but this is particularly satisfying, because Malta being an Island, and not very big, you can scope it quite well from the above, lost in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. it is actually south of the North African coast, so there is no sense in mentioning that it was hot, very hot. But considering that the clear sea is always around you and that there are many treasures on Malta, we braved the heat, and as it is custom in these hot latitudes, we laid low on the most searing hours of the day. |

John is the latest, and soon to become one from a long list of drummers in the Tunnels line-up, and here is waiting for sound check. We were surrounded on stage by either sea or old limestone buildings of many eras and cultures, all mixed together in this land that has had many rulers in its long history. |

The crew was first rate- we could not have hoped for better help, but my instrument being such a unique and unusual one I still have to deal with it myself. I am inaugurating this new device called a "Receptor" by Muse research, basically a dedicated computer for playing Virtual Synth and Sampler (VST), and I like it a lot already, although I just 'scratched the surface' so far. |

Malta, we discovered, is a land full of mysteries and intrigues, and an abstract look at it might be rendering the "ambiance" in a truer way than photographs might reveal, as these paintings were made while we were performing. The more I think about it the more I like this idea. In this age of digital data crunching, it's time to loop back to some medium that would actually last. |
 |
The stage was wide, so we stretched out- always a risky thing, as there's always the risk of losing touch with the rest of the band. We have not heard the recording of the show yet, but judging on the reactions of the crowd, it is safe to say that the show was very well received. |

Looking at this picture I realize that my mallets are pretty high up in the air, I should watch that, to me, it is the secret of control: make the most with the least, so I am wasting quite a bit of energy by going that high. But, on the other hand, it is quite theatrical! |

What's Percy's secret, that no one knows- but it is surely working well. What one thinks about when he is performing is an interesting topic for someone's thesis. It is definitely some altered state of consciousness. What Percy had in mind at that moment... was he thinking of the note, the left hand right hand, the latest kick from the drum, the cue from the vibes, the sound of the amp, the barometric pressure...? it can go on and on and is just a continuous stream of many layers, as is consciousness.... |
 |
So many cymbals surround John- well, half of them are Bill Bruford's, who had his drums set up behind us. And what is he thinking about....? AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
