Last stop on the trip is Boston. A tough nut to crack, there are a lot of young musicians in this city, with the Berklee school of Music, New England Conservatory, etc., so we were happy to see that the opening band for us was an enthusiastic group of Berklee students who had seen us twice before, and had requested to open for us. It is very important to be able to reach as wide an audience as possible, and sometimes Tunnels gets pigeonholed into a narrow area of the music which is Progressive Rock. Although there is a part of our music that takes root in this genre, we in Tunnels all feel that there is much more to the band than this...

So, since our music is many times influenced by science, I will talk about it for a while. Percy and I went to the Boston Science Museum and really had a great time. Since this city is home to some of the leading research institutions, lots of its history is on display here. Above is the UNIVAC, the first super computer. Here is just the console that controls the room-sized computer, that has probably a tenth of the computing power that this laptop (already an old one) that I am writing these captions on. Just imagine bringing that to gigs... |

The Mercury capsule, a small tin can basically, has a special relation to to one of our songs; in the tune the Hidden Dimension on Natural Selection, I am using some of the words John Glenn spoke while orbiting the Moon at the beginning and the end of the piece. |

Since electricity is not in the air (there being no storm or super cell to be found), we somehow discovered a way to make some sparks, and visited the Van Der Graf Generator (not the band but the actual one built by the master himself). Anyway we got our fill of sparks! |

More electrical vagrancies, I just liked the Medusa-like effect. |

Then we went to the land of the "no head people", also called "feet only"..., the only problem for them is that they have to mop the ceiling, too. |

Back in NYC and its unique skyline, which is barely visible in the sunset-- nevertheless, it is always good to be back. It will be good to listen to some of the recordings and watch some of the videos we shot during the tour. We will share the best of it with everyone, and we will be planning more shows for this year and the next. |
