A tour in the U.S. always requires quite a bit of driving, and this one starts with a whopping 600 (just a little under 1000 kilometers). To top it off there is a storm brewing and we spent about half of the day under heavy rain.
Percy always get excited when anything remotedly connected to lightning occurs. This time is no exception, although in his typical English (actually Welsh) temperament he is not overly excited, but for those who know him well, you know that when the homemade storm detector is actually overwhelmed by the amount of activity, the young kid side of Percy resurfaces, and he can barely hold his urge to jump out of the window and fly into the sky to get a closer look at the great sparks.
Stage left enters our new drummer Walker Adams, who had his brain overloaded a few times this past week by the sheer amount of new music he had to store under his cranial bone. He is young- you got that right! And good too. We will always be in debt to our good friend Craig for introducing him to us.
These two men made the whole last minute gig in Columbia SC experience not only happen (in particular Kevin Green on the right, who I first met almost twenty years ago when I used to play with Dr Nerve). But also most enjoyable, Kevin and his acolyte Tom Law opened for us, and then entertained us in the wee hours of the morning, downtown first and then in Tom's very nice and hospitable house lost in the woods outside a small town nearby.
Atlanta WRAS has been voted the best independent radio station in Atlanta. We are in the studio at the station on Peter Lewman's jazz show. Peter has been playing and charting Tunnels for many years and it is great to be able to be on his show, and meet him in person. Peter has an interesting taste of music, and he also dj's an electronic techno show, a place where Tunnels gravitates to sometimes.
Sunset and a cold beer- this the roof top of our favorite eatery in Atlanta, Six Feet Under, just across from the cemetery, with plenty of seafood.
Showtime at the EyeDrum (voted best alternative space by the readers of the Creative Loafing weekly newspaper). In short, only the best for Tunnels between the venue and the radio station, we are in good hands.
They built a new stage at the EyeDrum and the room sounds really good, Percy's new amp works well, its sound is sharp and fat at the same time. I use a new stereo system which frees me from any monitoring from the PA, Walker's Ludwig drums holds up to their reputation. All this promises to make this tour one of the best sounding Tunnels tour ever.
A day off hanging in the Five Points area of Atlanta. Asbury Heights is the first thing that comes to mind, murals, crystals, Harleys, boutiques and second hand stores. Percy could not get San Francisco out of its mind.
In this picture you can see the reflection of the new Tunnels t-shirt (yes we have new ones that look like the cover of Natural Selection, you can get them at our online store
An Adlous Huxley mural- when was the last time you came across one?
