Tunnels as a quartet- Nashville is the home of Van Manakas, our longtime guitar player. So he had to sit in with us, and it was great to be back on the same stage. We had no time to rehearse anything, but if memory serves, things fit into place quite nicely.
Stan Lassiter’s trio opened for us and I really enjoyed their set, it has the power trio energy with interesting tunes, arrangements and good interplay. |

There is a rule and it is as unavoidable as the law of gravity: what goes out of the van must come back in the van, assuming you want to get to the next gig. Also, be nice with the people helping you unload the van, since you are going to need them to help you load it back up. |
 |
Van has always had a spiritual approach to life, and here in Nashville besides working lots of gigs as a sideman he is producing a record with his wife, singer and songwriter Patience Moore. Van has also recently put out a country and western CD called “American Guitars” where his skill as a guitar player and stylist are featured. Although this is far from Tunnels' style it is nevertheless highly recommended. |

Van also loves hanging out in the desert and has a strong connection with anything that has to do with American Indians, hence that great leather jacket. Another thing that I would like to mentioned is that Van plays the Ud, a Middle Eastern instrument that is related to the lute ( you can hear him play this on “Boys in the Ud“ on the Tunnels “Painted Rock” CD). |

Ok this picture looks like the photographed menu from a Chinese restaurantI it's just my favorite late night food: pasta, tomato sauce and parmesan cheese, that goes back to my early years as a jazz musician. |

It is our first day of sunshine in a while, I think the body language of this dog translates well our feelings. |
